Random iPod Shuffle – Why Not?
2008 February 2
Until now, I’ve resisted doing one of those near ubiquitous random iPod shuffle posts for various reasons - mainly because my iTunes library had been a bit anemic and not really representative of what I normally listen to – but now, with about 80% of my music transferred to the computer, I thought I’d give it a try. I think I got an hilariously eclectic mix:
- Imagine – John Lennon
- Mommy Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight – The Misfits
- Dust My Broom – Elmore James
- Anything Goes – Guns N’ Roses
- Sea Babies – The Screaming Trees
- Smoke Two Joints – Sublime
- License To Chill – Jimmy Buffett
- Before You Go – Buck Owens
- Word Song – Syd Barrett
- Life Kills – The Human League
The song is listed on the left and the artist on the right, in case you didn’t pick up on that…
And the rules of the Random iPod Shuffle game are usually stated something like this:
-
Get your iPod, Zune or other media-player of choice and select your whole music collection
-
Set the thing to shuffle (i.e., randomized playback)
-
Post the first ten songs that come out.
-
No cheating, no matter how embarrassing!
-
(optional) Link the songs to online music stores for readers’ convenience.
And of course, feel free to play along…

Since you’ve inspired me to do this for the first time (and just in case this turns out bad), I’m gonna put ‘em here instead of on my blog. Is this eclectic enough for ya?
Thanks Art!
1. I Just Can’t Let You Say Goodbye – Willie Nelson
2. Smellin’ Coffee – Chris Rice
3. Mexico – James Taylor
4. Fortunate Fool – Jack Johnson
5. The Scientist – Coldplay
6. The Mercy Seat – Johnny Cash
7. Come Away with Me – Norah Jones
8. Come Back to us Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard – John Prine
9. The Sins of Memphisto – John Prine
10. New Year’s Day – U2
art,
familiar with almost all of the artists, but not so with the songs (the lone exception being, of course, the first). which means that you probably didn’t cheat, as these seem to be deep album cuts, and one of them a buffet cheese pizza.
i may need to do this filler again sometime soon. we’ll see who recognizes what.
Well, since you asked so nicely, I will do this meme – saves me thinking up a blog post and then post it over there…. (You know where to go!
)
I’m up to the 2nd song…….
okay – my neice put some of these songs on my ipod for me so i hope i get the song/artist combo right or that’s even MORE embarassing :-/

That’s how I feel, like a backward hick! No I don’t have an Ipod or a mp3 but my ’shuffle’ would have Beatles, Macy Gray, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Backyardigans, The Eagles, Aerosmith, Guns n’ roses, The Gaithers, Etta James, and Veggie Tales. And yes I really do like kid songs if i am singing them along with kids!
waahhh i don’t have an ipod. i am musically challenged.
I need an ipod!
I “imagine” John Lennon flipped over in his grave after that shuffle.
Mommy Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight? dang that must be one crazy kid!
nice playlist, however i have to admit that i have only heard of john lennon in that list.
i’m more of a rap type of person!
I’d love to play but I don’t have an MP3!
Right now, I’m listening WAR, U2.
I like your playlist though, we have similar musical taste.
