What’s Going On?

I realize it’s been a week since I last wrote a blog post. What happened? Well, last weekend was extraordinarily busy (even by my standards) and once again it spilled over into the current week.

First, the youth group at church volunteered me to cook 80 pounds of pork so they could sell barbecue to raise money for a trip.
cue
Yes, I said 80 pounds! The short version of this story is that the pig shoulders were duly rendered into 40 pounds of pulled ‘cue and (along with 3 gallons of home made sauce) was all soldĀ for a net of over $300 for the youth. Of course doing that took up almost all of my Friday and Saturday but it’s a worthy cause.

Second, my son’s scout pack held their annual father-Son cake bake on Sunday. So any remainder of Saturday that wasn’t devoted to pig leg cookin’ was devoted to 3D Darth Vader Cake cookin’:
tad-vader
Tad Vader got second place in his den! On the downside I got volunteered for something else – leading and organizing the Pack’s Christmas carolling excursion in December…

I also tried to do too much around the house and blew out my knee. Does anyone know if a large, painful, purple knot just above the knee should be considered a serious condition? I don’t think it is because it went away soon enough. But not before…

Stacie and I took Tuesday off to get some Christmas shopping done. We did. But the endless miles of mall walking didn’t do anything to help the knee. (note: it’s feeling much better now)

Finally, I attended an Administrative Council meeting at church yesterday. Not much to tell about that but being the final administrative meeting of the year, talk naturally turned to plans for the coming year. And that reminded me that the new chairperson has plenty to do before January.

Right, more busy-ness…

Kudos on the choice of Darth Vader for the cake entry! Well done Father & Son!
At any point did you utter the phrase, “Tad, I am your father”?
    Because I totally would’ve. :)

Yes I did! And in my best artificially-breathing-Darth-Vader voice.

Cool cake. (My nephew is named Luke. I think that’s so Ted could say” Luke, I am your father”)

Anyway. Sorry to hear about the knee and be careful of the knots! Hope your knee is better soon…shop online its easier…let the UPS man put the miles on!

Ahh take care! Great cake, and I wish some of that barbeque made it’s way up North!

I hear ya on the busyness. Between kids’ parties, work, hubby’s surgeries, and a cold I’m up to my eyeballs!

Oh how I miss east Tennessee pulled pork barbeque. There’s good eats down here, but its just not the same.

Yum…pulled pork. Hang on while I mop up the drool….

The Darth Vader cake looks totally awesome, too. (Hey, Linda, I have a nephew named Luke, too, and his father does the “Luke, I am your father” thing way too often.)

The knee? I know nothing about a large purple knot, but I do know about messing up knees. I’ve been putting off surgery for nearly 5 years now after the fourth serious injury to the same knee. All I can say is be careful!

Congrats on being AdCo chair. Doc says he’s glad it’s you and not him. He did that for far too many years, and he has finally learned how to say, “No.”

You’re such a good daddy…you and your son make quite a team. Btw, he’s a cutie!

If only I could Christmas shop this early, I’d love December!

Hey hon.. you’re the one that took off. Remember I have those “bankers hours” and was already off… gosh I love my job! ;)

    That is a lotta pork!

Can you believe the holidays are right around the bend? Time is going so fast. Is there a way to stop it?

Yummy BBQ, cool cake, and chritsmas shopping already-whoa!

I love the cake you made with your son Art. It came out great. What a good sport for cooking all the BBQ – seriously 80 lbs – wow.

I’m glad you knee is feeling better.

OK, I am actually jealous of your week and weekend.

Wouldja rather do all that, or get over the bite of a black widow spider and the resulting stomach ailment from the MANY antibiotics taken for said bite?

    Eh?

Busy sounding pretty good now, right!

Seriously, your son is handsome and I think the cake was 1st place quality. And you are a super cool dad to do all of that cooking and organizing and shopping for your family. Tell the Missus I said Hi!

Jen – I didn’t mean to complain so much but to explain. Sorry for your troubles (and that I’m not such a good blog friend these days – and that goes for just about everyone else too)

I don’t think I’ve ever been bitten by a spider but I have had a host of different antibiotics for various reasons and each and every one of them make me violently sick to my stomach. It seems like the stronger the antibio, the worse it gets. It sucks.

WOW! Art, I think very artfully you kept yourself busy when I think of your cooking and baking story I read! But am still thinking about the 80 pounds pork…:)
Well, its better to be busy in something that we like than wasting time :)

Keep up the good work …and hope you have a great weekend besides having a enjoyable busy week ahead

    Cheers

Ha! Maybe next time I will write *read sarcasm here* when I comment :)

You were just one of many to get to hear me whine about that bloomin’ spider. And no, I don’t think you were complaining. I would rather hear about a hectic life than not hear anything at all. I like the day in the life stuff!

NOT THAT I AM FUSSING ABOUT YOUR LACK OF TIME TO POST RIGHT NOW…

Maybe it is time for me to still my fingers and click submit comment?

I hope that you and your family are all doing well. We are all fine now that I am well from my spider bite… LOL!
